During the session, the client reclines on a comfortable treatment table. A small disposable speculum is gently inserted by the client, which allows the warm filtered water to enter and hydrate the Colon. A certified Colon Hydrotherapist operates the instrument and stays present in the room to guide and support you during your session. We offer energetic bodywork and reflective dialogue to help you through your process as needed.
We use the Hydro~San brand equipment which is a closed system meaning you don’t come in contact with the waste water. A series of several fills and releases of water are administered to hydrate and flush the bowel. Breath work, visualization and gentle massage techniques can be used to help assist the client’s body in releasing toxic waste matter that may be stagnant and adhered to the walls of the Colon.
The Initial Colon Hydrotherapy visit lasts 90 minutes, which includes a health assessment, follow up plan and 30-45 minute Colon Hydrotherapy session. Subsequent sessions last 60 minutes with a 30-45 minute Colon Hydrotherapy session. Initially, a series of 4-12 separate therapy sessions (preferably 2 a week) is usually recommended to ensure a thorough cleansing. Most clients continue Colon Hydrotherapy once a month for maintenance after completion of the first stage of the cleansing process.
In addition, we are committed to providing a clean, professional and safe environment using FDA registered equipment. Clients are treated with the utmost respect and dignity and leave with cleanse plans that are appropriate for their lifestyle.
Many clients leave having experienced the following benefits after their Colon Hydrotherapy session: Improved digestion, more energy, better elimination, greater mental clarity, headache relief, improved skin and improved well-being.

Q: Is Colon Hydrotherapy completely safe?
A: Yes. In fact, with new colon therapy equipment, treatments are much safer than the common enema.
Q: How does a Colon Hydrotherapy treatment compare to an enema?
A: An enema only reaches the rectum and sigmoid parts of the colon, whereas with Colon Hydrotherapy, the entire length of the Colon (the Large Intestine, approximately 5 to 5 ½ feet in length) is reached. According to learned centenarian Dr. Norman Walker, one Colon Irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.
Q: Do treatments hurt?
A: No. In fact many people report their Colon Hydrotherapy sessions as being both refreshing and relaxing.
Q: Should I see my doctor before my first Colon Hydrotherapy session?
A: If you have a concern about your health or are currently under a doctors care for an illness, you should consult a doctor. If you are diagnosed with the following conditions you may not be a candidate for Colon Hydrotherapy. Please call us with any questions and to discuss your concerns at (650) 355-7364. We would be happy to see how we can help.
Diverticulitis, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s Disease, Severe Bleeding Hemorrhoids, Rectal or Intestinal Tumors, GI Hemorrhage/Perforation, Severe Cardiac Disease, Severe Anemia, Cirrhosis, Breast feeding, Pregnancy, Recent Colon Surgery, Aneurysm, Fissures/Fistulas, Abdominal Hernia or Renal Insufficiency.
Professionally administered Colon Hydrotherapy is safe, and, generally, if you are free of the above sited conditions, a medical examination prior to therapy should not be necessary. Per medical standards it is highly recommended to have a Colonoscopy on or before the age of 50 years as a preventative measure. A series of Colon Irrigation can help prepare the body before surgery and undergoing such diagnostic testing. Colon Hydrotherapy is also used after courses of antibiotics and post surgery/anesthesia.
Q: Is there a danger of contamination from prior use of the colon hydrotherapy instrument?
A: Modern colon hydrotherapy instruments utilize pre-sterilized, disposable hoses and speculums. These disposables are used only once during a single therapy session.
Q: Does having a menstrual period at the time of a colon hydrotherapy session have any effect on treatment?
A: No. In fact, it’s usually a good time to receive a treatment, since your body is already cleansing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment. Removal of tampons is recommended during colon hydrotherapy sessions.
Q: Will I experience any intestinal discomfort of fatigue after the session?
A: Usually not, but since the cleansing can stir up a lot of old debris and toxins, you might experience some minor nausea or fatigue. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to rest and apply a warm heating pad to the abdomen. If you wish, a mild vegetable broth or peppermint tea is usually soothing. Any symptoms usually pass within 24 hours.
Q: Do I need to take probiotics like acidophilus after a colon cleansing because intestinal flora has been washed out of the colon?
A: It is recommended to use probiotics on a regular basis, but not because the treatment washes out intestinal flora. Colon hydrotherapy treatments do not wash out intestinal flora. Taking probiotics subsequent to a colon cleansing is beneficial because it helps to improve the bacterial balance in the colon. Because of modern science and the use of antibiotics in medicine and in our food supply, most of us have compromised immune systems created by a flora imbalance. Two methods to implant the flora are rectally the evening after your colon hydrotherapy session, and orally with an enteric coated Probiotic tablet with colostrom.
Q: What should I eat after a session?
A: Sometimes a light salad, soup, fresh fruit juice diluted with pure water, steamed veggies usually taste great after a session. Basically, something light, and easy on your digestive system!
Q: What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?
A: Here is some simple and basic information to help you prepare for your first colon hydrotherapy session:
Eating: Eat as light and healthy as you can for a couple of days prior to your session (Lots of raw fruits and vegetables!) Avoid congestive foods like processed foods, bread, meat and cheese, and try and avoid gas-forming carbonated drinks. Drink plenty of water! On the day of your session, do not eat a meal or drink at least 2 hours before your session. Since the session will include some light abdominal massage, it is best not to have a full stomach! If you have a history of constipation it would be wise to begin an herbal cleanse 3 days before your first session for optimum results. Herbal cleanse products are available for purchase at Inner Awakening Healing Center.
After the session: You can plan to resume your normal activities after the session. Some clients experience heightened energy after their session, while some report feeling very relaxed. Your response to the treatment will depend greatly on your state of health, and having a positive mental attitude! You can plan to return to work directly after a session with no problem.
